The SOUND GARDEN is an audible and visual experience inviting people of all ages to explore different sounds and make music together.
It can be hired on its own or together as a package with any of our other offers.
All of the instruments are totally unique and have been built by Urs Wenk.
It is a ‘work in progress’ as the aim is to add more and more instruments in time.
The iLog 23 is made out of an ash tree. By shaping it and cutting slits into the log it becomes musical when played with small hard wood sticks.
It is a freestyle version of a west African Krin and serves as a reminder that not so long ago we used more primitive ways of transmitting messages than with iPhones etc.
The Flipflopofone is made out of plumbers pvc pipes embedded in a wooden frame. Cutting the pipes into different lengths results in the ability to play this instrument in a scale of choice. This one is in a pentatonic scale of C-D-E-G-A.
Its sound is produced by hitting the openings with flipflops.
The Dundun Wall is a fun and powerful experience and it can be played by one or several players at the one time. A Dundun is a bass drum used in West African drumming. There are various sizes of these drums that are played with sticks – the small Kenkeni, the medium Sangbang and the large Dundun.
The Ishka Drumaí (water drums) are hollowed out semi calebashes turned upside down into a container filled with water. The inspiration for making these came from the traditional African ‘Djidunun’, an instrument quite rare to find.
By playing them with a soft mallet or with the hands an incredible boomy sound is created as the water resonates deeply.
This sound sample requires headphones!
The Bottle Spiel consists of 10 bottles filled with with different amounts of water which creates the tuning. It can be played with light wooden sticks and everyone familiar with playing melody instruments will be able to play a variety of songs on it.
